Name Dropping

The most heard 2 words (almost) in rap and pop music? Louis Vuitton.
That certainly put a dent in a lot of people’s love for LV.

Everybody’s obsessed with brand names and pop culture is definitely feeding this obsession. Hip Hop and pop artists are constantly using their music to sell a brand. Whether it’s their own, a favorite designer, or just whatever brand name makes the lyrics rhyme. Even when it’s unintentional, it is a very smart marketing strategy and they sure are getting paid for the endorsement!

Here are just few quotes from famous lyrics that mention a fashion brand:

Jay Z - Run This Town:
"Peace God… Uh! Uh! And ain’t nobody fresher, I’m in Maison Martin Margiela
Fergie - My Humps
"Dolce & Gabbana
Fendi and Donna
Karan maybe Sharon"

E 40 - U and Dat
"She wear Miss Sixty, can't fit in a Gucci"

Cassie - Long Way 2 Go
"Wear LaRok with my Rebel Yell underneath"

Kanye West
"Monster Giuseppe heel, that's the monster shoe"

Shawnna - D**n
"I only swim in Donatella or some BCBG"

Lil Kim - No Matter
Bvlgari perfume from a mile you smell us

Ludacris - B R Right
"I might make you famous, and buy you watches by Maurice Lacroix"

Ginuwine - In Those Jeans
"Calvin, Iceberg,
Sergio, I love them"
Jay Z - I Just Wanna Love ya
"Go somewhere private where we can discuss fashion
Like, Prada blouse, Gucci bra"

Gwen Stefani - Rich Girl
"Clean out Vivienne Westwood
In my Galliano gown"
Switch
"See I Choose The Jimmy Choos And Christian Lacroix"

  1. OMG! I am a lyric freak! I actually rapped/sang exactly where those lyrics go in the song. I’m not much of a label whore due to my tight student budget but one day, I’ll be name-dropping those heffas like coppers from my purse LOL
