Who Said You Can’t Black This Summer?

Yes magazines tell you to stick to white in the summer, but as someone whose wardrobe is 90% black I don’t like to follow that advice. Not only is white easier to stain, it also cooks the body because it reflects heat both ways: the heat coming from the sun and the heat generated by the body. It’s really the weight and type of cloth that makes you hot. Black linen clothing is one of the coolest things you can wear. The only time black clothes will make you hot is if you’re totally motionless in heavy-weight clothing someplace that reflects heat right onto you — like the beach. It also helps that the pieces below are summer essentials.

Lilly Ghalichi vs Zahia Dehar

Today’s face-off girls are Barbie’s ethnic cousins. Persian Barbie or Lilly Ghalichi is a law school graduate, turned swimsuit maker, turned reality star turned eyelash designer. Zahia Dehar‘s claim to fame came courtesy of a sex scandal with the French soccer team, and she’s been living the Barbie dream ever since. Ok they’re not technically similar, but both are petite, love plastic surgery and will do anything for fame! Lilly claims her eyelashes sold out before they even became available. Zahia’s meteoric rise in fashion is endorsed by big names in haute couture. Christian Louboutin and Jean Paul Gaultier are regulars at her Paris Fahsion Week lingerie shows labeled Zahia Couture. Karl Lagerfeld declared “there is not one ounce of vulgarity in her” and likened her to an 18th-century courtesan. He curated her look book and styled her for V magazine. The Algerian born bimbo has been featured in Vanity Fair, V magazine, shot by Terry Richardson and Ellen Von Unwerth among few.

The funny part about writing this post, was the fact that it was tough finding pictures of Lilly that weren’t taken by her on her iphone, or Zahia where she is actually wearing clothes!

Met Ball Best and Worst Dressed

Can you believe Kim Kardashian used to be a stylist?
The theme of the Met this year was punk, so the obvious choice for a 9 month pregnant girl would be black. It’s not only slimming, it’s also easier to accessorize! As for Carine, she couldn’t make a fashion faux pas if she wanted. She’s wearing a sweater on top of a sheer skirt and she still looks so elegant!

Best Fashion Campaigns Of All Times

My Top 5

Flavia di Oliveira for Cesare Paciotti

You’ll appreciate this even more, if you tried that pose! It’s literally impossible, yet it doesn’t distract from the shoes.

Megan Ewing for Guess

Way before Megan Fox there was Megan Ewing. Her Guess campaign is so reminiscent of the dark and dirty denim era of the early 2000s.

Bianca Balti for Dolce & Gabbana

Everything about this campaign, from the Sicilian lace, to the Sophia Loren inspired eyeliner, to the models (Monica Belucci, Bianca Brandolini & Bianca Balti) is a tribute to Italy.

Hana Ben Abdeslam for Lancome

To me, this is a glamorous poster of the Jasmine Revolution. Since Hanaa’s career takeoff coincided with the revolution in Tunisia , her native land.

Sky Vodka

Sky Vodka ads were legendary and had an almost Mad Men-esque vibe.

David Beckham for H&M

This list would be incomplete without Beckham. Too bad the cats were added post production.
