The Macaron or the French macaroon (not to be confused with the coconut based macaroon, here) is not a new pastry, it has been around since the XVI century and was considered the favorite dessert of royalty in Europe.
Today one name has revolutionized the macaroon, and it’s none other than confisserie extraordinaire La Durée, known as the official inventor of the double Decker macaroon, and the best macaroon shop in the world. These tiny desserts are the Balenciaga bag of pastries, and thanks to an appearance on Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette, and Gossip Girl as Blair Waldorf’s favorite pastries they officially made a debut as the hip pastry in the US.
